Careers at East End Animal Surgery & Urgent Care

Urgent Care Veterinarian – Help Build the Kind of Veterinary Medicine You Still Believe In

Do you believe good veterinary medicine should still be accessible to ordinary people?
Are you the kind of veterinarian who can think clearly under pressure, move efficiently through
surgery, and still treat clients with empathy when things are hard?
Do you want to work somewhere that values judgment, teamwork, practical problem solving, and real-world medicine – without forcing every case into a corporate ER model? If that sounds like you, keep reading. Because this probably isn’t a normal urgent care job. And for the right person, that’s exactly the point.

About the Job
We’re hiring an Urgent Care Veterinarian to join our independently owned urgent care practice
in Houston, Texas.
This role exists because our caseload continues to grow, and because we believe this model of
veterinary medicine only works sustainably when good people build it together.

You’ll be stepping into a fast-paced urgent care environment with:
● a strong surgical caseload
● experienced technicians who work at a high level
● a team that values collaboration and accountability
● clients who genuinely need practical, compassionate options

You’ll regularly see:
● wounds and trauma
● blocked cats
● pyometras
● GI cases
● acute illness
● pain presentations
● urgent surgical procedures
● walk-in emergencies

This is not “ER-lite.” And it’s not slow-paced GP.

You will need to:
● triage efficiently
● make good decisions under pressure
● communicate clearly
● stay organized
● perform surgery confidently
● delegate appropriately
● manage workflow without becoming overwhelmed

The Three Biggest Outcomes for This Role
1. Deliver excellent urgent care medicine efficiently
We need someone who can handle pace without sacrificing judgment or compassion.
2. Help strengthen a collaborative, sustainable team
This practice depends on veterinarians and technicians working together closely and trusting each other.
3. Help us continue building a different kind of veterinary model
We believe accessible care and good medicine are not opposites. We want someone who believes that too.

About Us
East End Animal Surgery and Urgent Care was founded by Dr. Mackenzie Gallegos, a veterinarian with a background in shelter medicine, high-volume surgery, and emergency care.

The clinic was built around a simple idea:

A huge number of pets do not need either “gold standard at any cost” or euthanasia as their only two options.

Many families simply need:

● competent medicine
● honest communication
● practical treatment plans
● and a veterinary team willing to try.

That’s what we exist to provide.

We’re independently owned, community-focused, and intentionally different from many large corporate ER systems.

Our clinic operates out of a slightly scrappy older East End Houston building that we genuinely love. It’s not polished luxury medicine. What matters to us is:
● good people
● good systems
● good judgment
● good medicine
● and helping animals that might otherwise fall through the cracks

Our technicians are trusted and highly utilized. Our team moves quickly. We collaborate constantly. We care deeply about what we do.

We’re also honest about the reality that urgent care medicine can be emotionally difficult work. That’s why we’ve invested heavily in:
● team communication
● boundaries
● resiliency training
● mentorship
● and building a workplace where people actually support each other

We are trying to build something sustainable – not just busy.

About You
You might fit well here if:
● you enjoy surgery
● you like solving problems
● you stay calm when things get busy
● you value technician partnership
● you can communicate clearly during stressful situations
● you believe practical medicine still matters

● handle responsibility maturely
● and contribute positively to the team around you
